Pocket Rocket are to pleased to offer for sale a hand selected 1990 BMW (E30) 320i 4 door.
This BMW 320i (E30) is a clean and well-sorted modern classic, presented in very good condition and with subtle modifications to its appearance and performance. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre straight-six M20B20 engine with fuel injection, producing around 123bhp, driving the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer indicates 127,083 miles from new, with a comprehensive service history to support it.
Purchased as a project some years ago, its bodywork was restored, and was enhanced by the addition of M Tech body styling. Its sportier appearance is complemented by the addition of 15-inch OZ alloy wheels. Its rear axle, brakes, and suspension were also upgraded, and a short-shift kit was fitted to the gearbox. Finally, a stainless steel sports exhaust system was chosen to give the straight-six a new aural character.
First registered in January 1990, this 320i was supplied by Ashdown Garage in East Sussex. There are seven previous registered keepers on the log book.
Today, the bodywork is in excellent condition, with impressive shut lines and panel gaps thanks to its prior refurbishment. During this renovation, genuine new BMW panels were used where necessary, and the whole car was then repainted in Alpine White, accented by ‘M Sport’ side stripes. The paint finish is in generally superb order, with just some minor bubbling on one spot on the roof. Its 15-inch OZ Racing alloys are in great shape, with only some small paint blemishes and no unsightly kerbing damage.
The interiors in this era of BMW are renowned for being hardwearing, and this example is no different. The condition of the black vinyl backings and grey cloth seat covers is superb, with some slightly fading over time, but with no rips or tears in the fabric. Its cabin trims are in very good order, with only a few age-related marks and one small crack in the dashboard – a common E30 issue. The three-spoke M Tech steering wheel and the gear knob are both in good condition, and the cabin is equipped with electric front windows as well as a manual winding sunroof. This model also has the added benefit of a fully functioning ice-cold air-conditioning.
Mechanically, this E30 is in very good order, and it has been modified with the rear axle and disc brakes from a 325i of the same era. The chassis was fitted with Powerflex Purple components throughout, on slightly lower suspension, and J-hooked brake discs were installed. Under the bonnet, the engine bay is generally clean and tidy, and features modern silicone hoses.
Its last scheduled maintenance was in April 2020 at approximately 126,000 miles. This consisted of a full service including new spark plugs. It has been serviced regularly throughout its life, and has also received a new radiator and coolant.
The most recent MOT test was on 27 November 2019 at 120,496 miles, which resulted in a clean pass with no advisories. Over the last 13 years, it has never failed a test. The wheels are shod in Toyo Proxes T1-R tyres in size 205/55 R15 all round. They are date-coded to 2017 and are all in great condition, with around 5mm of tread remaining.
Accompanying the car is an impressive box file of history, containing a well stamped service record book, an original brochure, a raft of maintenance invoices and receipts, and lots of previous MOT certificates.
This BMW 320i saloon is a very smart example of the E30 model, which benefits from discreet mechanical and driveline upgrades. Its sports exhaust makes a wonderful noise under high revs, and the car is ready to relish on the open road. With the desirable combination of a smooth six-cylinder engine and a slick manual gearbox, this car is presented in impressive condition, and would make a fun addition to any collection.
